EUP MiSTEM Region News and Events

The Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District and MiSTEM Region would like to thank the following businesses/organizations/individuals for their support of the recent EUP Regional Science & Engineering Fair:

The EUP Intermediate School District (EUPISD) and EUP MiSTEM Region held the annual EUP Regional Science & Engineering Fair for grades K-8 on December 8, 2023, at Lake Superior State University. Schools that participated in this event were: Bois Blanc, Cedarville, JKL Bahweting, Pickford, Sault-Lincoln Elementary, Sault Area Middle School, and St. Ignace. This year, 120 students advanced from local school district Science and Engineering Fair events to represent 81 projects in the regional event at LSSU.

Students were asked to present their ideas, methods, and results and to discuss their overall project. Judges then evaluated the project based on pre-set judging criteria. The judging panel consisted of members of our local community, governmental entities, My-Michigan-Sault, LSSU faculty, as well as EUPISD staff. Although all the projects were great, and it was a difficult decision for judges, the following students placed in the top three:

KINDERGARTEN

1st Place: Greyden Herschell (Pickford)
2nd Place: Asher Brood (Pickford)
3rd Place: Sawyer Marquart (Cedarville)

FIRST GRADE

1st Place: Group Presentation: Nora Martin, Ruby Martin, and Lilly Seeley (Cedarville)

SECOND GRADE

1st Place: Group Presentation: Elliana Kagarise and Kellen Keefer (JKL)
2nd Place: Vivian Krouth (Sault-Lincoln)
3rd Place: Penelope Tibbitts (Pickford)

THIRD GRADE

1st Place:  Liam Maudrie (St. Ignace)
2nd Place: Mara Campbell (Sault-Lincoln)
3rd Place: Group Presentation: Isla Tassier, Sophia Sherlund, and Jaxon Duncan (Cedarville)

FOURTH GRADE

1st Place:  Maeby Chipman-Bergsma (Sault-Lincoln)

SEVENTH GRADE

1st Place:  Group Presentation: Luke Roe, Destiney Robinson, and Karter Ince (JKL)
2nd Place: Kennah Kovacs (St. Ignace)
3rd Place: Group Presentation: Frank Chipman-Bergsma and Elliot Povey (Sault - Middle)

EIGTH GRADE

1st Place:  Colby Arnold (St. Ignace)
2nd Place: Group Presentation: Lorelai Kachur, Layla Thomas-Holm, and Alexandra Balyeat (JKL)
3rd Place: Randy Lowes (JKL)

First place winners were awarded with a trophy, second place received a plaque, and third place received a medal.
